Meet Dr. Kari Badwi
Dr. Kari Badwi, DDS, Cert Ped Dent, FRCD(C), is a board-certified pediatric dentist and the founder of BabyTooth in Calgary.
A Passion for Pediatric Dentistry
A Calgary native, Dr. Kari was inspired to pursue dentistry after realizing how much her own pediatric dentist shaped her comfort and confidence in the dental chair. That experience, along with her love of working with her hands and desire for meaningful, challenging work, led her toward pediatric dentistry.
From the beginning, her goal has been simple: to inspire a generation of children who feel happy going to the dentist. Prevention, trust, and positive early experiences remain at the center of everything she does.
Education and Experience
Dr. Kari earned her dental degree from New York University in 2004, followed by a hospital residency at the University of Buffalo and a pediatric dentistry specialty residency at the Women and Children’s Hospital in Buffalo, New York, in 2007. She opened BabyTooth that same year and has spent nearly two decades helping children build healthy, confident relationships with dental care.
She is an active member of the Alberta Dental Association, the Canadian and American Academies of Pediatric Dentistry, the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, and the International Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
A Prevention-Focused Philosophy
Dr. Kari believes that a successful visit is not about completing a perfect procedure. It is about helping a child leave feeling safe, confident, and willing to come back.
She takes a prevention-first, trauma-informed approach to care, using education, trust-building, and child-friendly communication to help children feel comfortable in the dental chair. She would rather pause treatment and protect a child’s long-term confidence than force a stressful experience.
Families appreciate how clearly she explains treatment options, how closely she partners with parents, and how naturally she helps even anxious children feel at ease.
Life Outside the Office
Outside the office, Dr. Kari enjoys traveling, yoga, daily meditation, and spending time with her husband, Dan, and their three boys, Cooper, Jacob, and Justin.
